SPECIAL PRAYER REQUEST DURING WARTIME ---
Dear Friends and Co-Laborers:
It is an honor to serve with you during these challenging days our nation is facing. Just as I believe God has placed our national leaders in their positions for such a time as this, I also believe He has positioned each of us for special ministry opportunities.
As President Bush told our nation Monday evening, war holds no certainties, except the certainty of sacrifice. In that spirit, I would like to challenge all of us to be especially alert to places we can serve and people to whom we can minister as our nation steps into this conflict.
I also want to ask you to join me in focused prayer for the Iraqi conflict. Here are some specific areas for us to keep in mind:
• Our troops Acts 4:28-31
- Pray that God would protect the men and women serving in our armed forces.
- Pray for protection and provision for their families during this time of separation.
- Pray for the chaplains and other Christian soldiers to be bold in their witness and faith.
- Pray that He will use this time of war and uncertainty to draw thousands of soldiers and their families to a saving faith in Jesus Christ.
• Our leaders Col. 1:9-11
- Pray for God’s guidance and wisdom for President Bush, his advisors, members of Congress, military leaders and all those in key positions during these critical days.
- Pray that President Bush will have needed resolve and resilience to lead the U.S. as commander-in-chief of our armed forces.
• The Iraqi people Col. 4:2-4; John 8:31-33
- Pray for the protection of innocent civilians and for minimal casualties among both soldiers and civilians.
- Pray that Christians in Iraq will be protected and provided with new freedoms to share their faith boldly.
- Pray that God would draw large numbers of Iraqi’s to Himself so they might not only know freedom from an oppressive government, but the ultimate freedom only Christ can give.
• Peace in Jerusalem 1 Tim. 2:1-4
- Pray that Israel will not be drawn into this conflict and that the ultimate effect of U.S. action would be greater stability in the Middle East region.
- Pray for other nations in the Middle East.
We will be posting prayer resources on our Internet site to assist you, our SBC churches and other Christians as they pray for our nation.
